From April 4th to July 27th, 2025
Just a few days ago the exhibit “
Modern Bodies (
Corpi Moderni)” has been inaugurated at the
Accademia Galleries in Venice.
The issue of this exhibit is to
investigate how during Renaissance the human body was studied, represented and perceived, eventually becoming the starting point of all visual arts, including architecture.
One of the stars of the exhibit is undoubtedly the
Vitruvian Man by
Leonardo da Vinci, which is preserved at the Accademia Galleries, but exposed only very rarely, because of obvious preservation reasons.
Along with this unique masterpiece we can also admire other exceptional works of art: impressive anatomical studies, such as
The Great Lady again by
Leonardo, ancient works, for example the
Grimani Altar dating back to the 1st cent. A.D. or the terracotta votive feminine statuette of
Etruscan art, a drawing of a
Sybil by hand of
Michelangelo,
Venus and Adonis by
Titian, engravings by
Dürer, two stunning canvases by
Giorgione,
The tempest and The Old Woman, the Double Portrait by Tullio Lombardo…
Several objects complete the series:
measurement and drawing tools, clothing accessories, metallic arm and leg prostheses. After all, our body creates our own identity.
