The Feast of Madonna della Salute
November 21st in Venice
Every year, on
November 21st, we celebrate in
Venice the
Feast of the Holy Mary of Health (Festa della Salute).
It is still one of the most important reliogious traditions for the Venetians, since when it was started in
1631.
A
wooden pontoon bridge is built for the occasion across the
Grand Canal, so that anyone can easily walk up to the church, where holy functions are held all day long.
It is not only a holy moment, though… there exists also a profane side of it: outside the church you can find several stands with candies, goodies, colorful balloons… it is, after all, the feast of the
Venetian families.
